Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using klew.app (the "Service"), including the Klew iOS application, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

2. Accounts

You may browse and solve free puzzles without an account. To publish puzzles, rate puzzles, or sync progress across devices, you must create an account.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must not share your account or create multiple accounts.

3. User Content (Constructor-Published Puzzles)

Constructors. When you publish a crossword puzzle on klew, you retain ownership of your original content. By publishing, you grant klew a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, distribute, and promote your puzzle through the Service. You may unpublish or edit your puzzles at any time.

Originality. You represent that puzzles you publish are your original work or that you have the right to distribute them. You must not publish puzzles that infringe on the intellectual property rights of others.

Prohibited content. You must not publish puzzles or clues that contain hate speech, harassment, explicit sexual content, or content that promotes violence or illegal activity.

4. Klew Puzzle Content

Ownership. Crossword puzzles published by Klew itself, including the daily 5×5 mini, the 9×9 midi, the 11×11 daily, and the 13×13 weekly (collectively, "Klew Puzzles"), and all of their constituent elements (grids, fill, clues, themes, titles, and accompanying text), are the property of Klew. Copyright in Klew Puzzles is owned by Klew unless otherwise noted on a particular puzzle.

Personal solving license. Klew grants you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable license to solve Klew Puzzles for your own use through the Service. Printing or saving a single puzzle for your own personal solving use is permitted.

What is not permitted. Without prior written permission from Klew, you may not redistribute, republish, syndicate, sell, license, sublicense, broadcast, publicly display, or commercially exploit Klew Puzzles or any of their elements. You may not remove copyright notices, watermarks, or attribution from Klew Puzzles.

Reprint licensing. Klew may grant reprint licenses for Klew Puzzles to publications, newsletters, and other outlets, on terms set out in a written license agreement. The existence of any such license does not affect Klew's underlying ownership or the prohibitions in this section.

5. Acceptable Use

Solver conduct. You agree not to use automated tools to solve puzzles, manipulate ratings, or interfere with the Service. You must not harass constructors or other users through reviews or any other feature of the Service.

No scraping. You may not scrape, copy, harvest, or systematically access Klew Puzzles, constructor-published puzzles, or other Service content through automated means, including but not limited to web crawlers, bots, scripts, headless browsers, or APIs not expressly provided for solver use.

No AI training or model use. You may not use Klew Puzzles, clues, themes, or any Service content to train, fine-tune, develop, evaluate, or benchmark any artificial intelligence model, machine learning system, large language model, or automated content-generation system, whether commercial or non-commercial, without prior written permission from Klew. This restriction is a condition of access to the Service and applies regardless of how you obtained the content.

No reverse engineering. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code, algorithms, or word databases that power the Service, except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law.

6. Intellectual Property

The klew name, logo, website design, software, word databases, and solver code are the property of klew and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without our written permission. All rights not expressly granted in these terms are reserved.

7. Pricing

klew is currently a free platform. All puzzles are available to solve at no cost. We reserve the right to introduce optional paid features in the future, with reasonable notice.

8. Termination

You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms.

Upon termination, your published puzzles will be removed from the platform. Your puzzle data may be retained for a reasonable period to allow you to export it upon request.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times. We are not responsible for any loss of data, including puzzle progress or draft puzzles.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, klew shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including loss of revenue, data, or profits.

11. Enforcement

Klew may enforce these terms by any means available, including issuing DMCA takedown notices, terminating account access, blocking automated traffic, and pursuing legal remedies for violations. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of the right to enforce it later.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
